The Towers On The Air (TOTA) programme continues its international development. On 10 October 2026 at 00:00 UTC, Canada will officially join the programme.
Canadian towers will use the VER reference prefix. The National Coordinator is Mike, VA6CNC from Alberta, who has prepared the groundwork for the launch and the first Canadian references.
The launch date was chosen to coincide with the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, which in many parts of the country is one of the last weekends with favourable weather before winter arrives. Mike is also contacting active POTA operators to encourage some of the first TOTA activations before the snow season begins.
We look forward to the first Canadian activations, new towers and many new international contacts within TOTA.
At the request of Czech radio amateurs, the Liblice B transmitter will be exceptionally included in the TOTA programme from 1 to 12 October 2026.
The two 355-metre-high masts form a prominent technical landmark and are also the tallest structure in the Czech Republic. In connection with their planned demolition, this site has been approved for historical and commemorative reasons as a time-limited exception, although it does not meet the standard TOTA requirements for publicly accessible observation structures.
Activation is only possible from a publicly accessible place within the permitted activation radius.

The Towers On The Air (TOTA) programme continues its international growth. From 1 October 2026, Israel will officially join the programme.
Israeli towers will be listed under the prefix 4XR. The National Coordinator is Ron Yatziv 4X1IG / K2HH, who prepared the necessary data for launching the programme.
At some locations, local access rules must be respected and permission from the site or park operator may be required.
We look forward to the first Israeli activations and many new TOTA contacts.
TOTA has become part of ScoutCAT, a mobile application developed by Casey Stanton, K3SBP. ScoutCAT is a free mapping and planning application for outdoor amateur radio activities, available for iOS and Android. Alongside POTA, SOTA, WWFF, WWBOTA and LLOTA, it now also supports TOTA – Towers On The Air.
ScoutCAT displays references from the various programmes on a map, allows users to find nearby locations and plan activations. The database can be downloaded to the phone and the application can also be used offline, which is particularly useful when operating in the field.
The integration uses the new TOTA Towers API v1 and includes not only tower locations and references, but also activation history and statistics. This makes it possible, for example, to find towers that have never been activated, have not been activated during the past year, or have never been activated on a particular band or mode.
The integration was developed through direct cooperation between TOTA and the author of ScoutCAT, taking only a few days from the first contact to the production launch.
A new section covering club (collective) and special call signs has been added to the TOTA Rules.
The rules now describe their registration, activation procedure, ADIF log uploads, and the allocation of activator points to the actual operators using the OPERATOR field.

With the latest update of Ham2K Portable Logger, the Towers On The Air (TOTA) activity is now fully integrated directly into the application.
